Posted onThe juice is fresh, but the team behind it? Even fresher.
Introducing Pick of the Bunch, where we spotlight the people who make Picky...well, Picky.
From juice & smoothie obsessives to perfectionist planners, this crew lives and breathes bold flavors, bright ideas, and the relentless pursuit of liquid greatness.
Stay tuned as we peel back the curtain (and maybe an orange or two) to share their stories, quirks, and what keeps them squeezing every drop of passion into Picky.
Obsessed? Us too.
Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your role?
My name is Sally, and some people (when they think they are being funny) call me Boss Lady, but I prefer Co-Founder as it speaks to our startup days, although my official title these days is CEO. My role is to be strategic and to think big picture, imagining a hugely positive future, and then to direct traffic - people, not the physical kind with wheels.
Tell us a bit about your connection to the Hastings region. What makes this place special to you?
I still feel like a Hawke’s Bay import, even though I’ve now officially lived here for 19+ years, both my son & daughter were born here, and they are nearly all grown up! Scary how time flies by… but that’s my connection as I’m actually from the Hutt Valley originally.
When you think about Hastings, what local ingredients or foods immediately come to mind?
The Hawke’s Bay Farmers Market, the blueberries from Bay Blue, and of course, the apples, oh so many apples.
What’s a typical day like for you here?
I don’t think I have a typical day, every day is different – meeting people, talking to people, interpreting chats & ultimately herding the cats into some semblance of order… Is that what you want to know?
What’s one thing you love about being in the Hastings region?
Still thinking on this one? No seriously…
Quick-fire questions.
Pick three words to describe yourself when you were 13.
Geek, gymnast & short (this has never changed).
What’s the video game based on the movie based on the book about your life called?
Never underestimate the vertically challenged.
Imagine you have to eat the same breakfast for the rest of your life… what’s for dinner?
Raw fish in the form of sashimi or ceviche.
Who’s your ideal celebrity three-legged-race teammate?
Steven Adams – would be hilarious.
